FAQ

Electric Fence Light pdficon_small

  • Why the Z-Bulb Plus

The Z-Bulb Plus is designed to withstand the current that is generated by the larger Fence Chargers and work on the smaller fence chargers as well. Charger must be at least a 10-mile charger or larger and just remember the larger the charger the brighter the light.

  • Will the Z-Bulb Plus Fence Light draw from my fence?

The Z-Bulb Plus is designed to only draw current off the fence until something touches the fence and when that happens the light will disengage and sends the full shock from the charger to the animal or person or what ever is touching the fence. When you want to test your fence unhook the light first and when something touches the fence that is exactly the voltage that will be active.

  • Why does the LED Fence Light not work with larger boxes?

The electronics can not handle that much voltage. We suggest that to be safe, the LED be put only on boxes under 3 joules and at least 50 foot away from charger unless it is a small charger.

  • Is the Z-Bulb Plus as bright?

In most cases it is brighter. However on some small boxes it is not quite as bright. It still is visible but just not as bright. If placed on a larger charger such as a 4-Joule or larger it will be blinding bright.

  • Is it hard to install?

No! Simply Attach the fence light to any wood post or t-post (with optional bracket sold separately). Run the ground wire either to a ground line on fence or a ground stake. Take the knocker and attach it to the hot wire on the fence by using a split bolt and make it tight so it does not arc or it will burn your fence. That is all there is to it! You may need to adjust the spark gap inside the Knocker but that is also very simple and we supply instructions just in case.

  • Do I have to have a fence clear of weeds before I install my fence light?

We highly recommend it. A fence that has weeds all over it defeats the purpose of having a fence light unless the box has that much output. Every weed that grows and touches the fence lowers the line voltage on the fence because the fencer is trying to burn them off. The light monitors the line voltage on the fence. When the fence is loaded down with weeds then the light is not going to flash all the time, or in the worst case maybe not at all. That means that even if the box is showing you have output voltage going to your fence, your actual fence lines do not have enough voltage. That is also not good for containing livestock.

  • Where on my fence do I have to install my fence light?

Anywhere! The electric fence light will monitor the condition of your fence when installed to any part of the fence.

  • How long will my bulb last?

The LED bulb in the electric fence light will usually last one year depending upon how powerful the charger is. Some people are reporting that the LED bulb is lasting up to two years. The future away you place the LED light from the charger the better if it is a powerful charger.

  • Does the light work without the knocker?

The light will work without the knocker, however the light is not designed to work without the knocker. If the light is used without the knocker it will draw a considerable amount of energy from the fence and ground it out in some conditions.

  • Does the knocker work without the light?

    Yes

  • Can I use a different kind of bulb in my light?

The EFL bulbs are specially designed to absorb the voltage the fence gives off and not let it destroy the LEDs. Other bulbs will not work with the fence light because they are not intended to take the power.

  • Do you make a predator globe for the light?

We currently are working on one.

  • How do I adjust my knocker?

Instructions on how to adjust your knocker came with your fence light. If you have lost them, refer to the Knocker Air Gap Adjustment link elsewhere on this site.

Lightning Fuse pdficon_small

  • Why are they sold in packs of two?

They are sold in packs of two so that you can use one on the hot side and one on the ground side.

  • How do I hook them up?

The fuses will replace the wire you use to go from your fencer to the fence and from your fencer to the ground. When hooking to the fence and ground, insure that it is making a good, tight connection. We highly recommend using a splice clip or split bolt when attaching it.

  • Will they really protect my fence box from lightning surges?

YES! They will protect your box from lightning coming back across the fenceĀ or coming up from the ground rod.

  • What makes it different from the other 1 amp lightning fuse on the market?

Lightning will jump right across the other fuses on the market due to the size and length. In fact
lightning has been known to jump rather far. That is why our fuses are 6 to 24 inches long with some other secret little things we do with them. We do suggest using our own special Lightning Diverters with the fuses just to make sure you are completely protected. If it is a direct hit from lightning all bets are off because you can not protect anything against a direct hit. BIG BANG!!! Nothing left but ashes….

  • My fence box has built in lightning protection. Why would I need these fuses?

Would you really want lightning to even get into your box? Just the magnitude of the charge will destroy the internal components in the box. $14.99 is a small price to pay to protect your investment and keep the lightning out of your box. Do not rely on the internal lightning protection. Some times it is better to have and not need as to needed and didn’t have. I have lost too many chargers to lightning to take that chance anymore.

  • How can I tell if the fuse is Blown?

There are a few things that can happen when lightning strikes the fence and the fuse does its job:

    1. The casing may be burned black.
    2. The whole fuse may be blown in two pieces.
    3. The internal one amp wire will be burned in two or burned completely up.
